Attract millennial parents to your school

When you heard people talking about “Millennials,” it didn't occur to you that at some point you'd have to understand them if you wanted to win them over.

Born between 1981 and 1995, the vast majority of parents of children between 1 and 4 years old are millennial moms and dads.

According to Forbes magazine, they're characterized by using technology as a way of life. Almost all of their daily relationships happen through a screen, and they prefer the internet to conventional TV.

It's clear that traditional advertising is not the way to reach them. Is your educational institution ready for our generation? Does your school already have an Educational Marketing strategy?

We're demanding, critical and, above all, digital.

If you're the one in charge of your school's marketing, you're the one who needs to pay attention to these tips:

Have a presence on the internet.

Up-to-date social media with good content, a website that adapts to mobile devices and is easy to navigate. Do you show up in the top results in your area? This is where you could be losing a millennial parent.

Be different from your competition.

It's going to sound very old-fashioned, but it's still true: in 81% of millennial families, the mom also works, so paying monthly tuition for their children's education is no longer frightening. Take care of your school's image, and do things differently from the other schools in your area.

Repeat after me: “technology is my friend.”

Take advantage of digital media: it's accessible, direct and, best of all, instant. Try to communicate with millennial parents in ways other than flyers and little notes in notebooks, the ones that arrive 2 days after report cards are handed out. Spare them as many meetings as possible and use another digital channel such as video conferences or live streams.

One negative comment counts as much as 10 excellent ones.

Millennial moms base 70% of their decisions on influencers. No, I'm not saying you'll have to convince Belinda to enroll her kids in your school, but the first thing those moms will take into account will be other people's opinions about your school.

For Millennials, negative online and mobile digital experiences have a much greater negative impact than they do on other age groups. This fact makes us think that maybe we should focus our educational marketing budget on something else.

Segment your social media campaigns.

Focus your efforts on getting students for your school's lowest grade. The earlier they enroll, the more likely they are to spend the next school year at your school, and you won't have to worry about empty classrooms every school year.

If you'd like to apply these tips, at Digitalegia we'll give you a free consultation where we'll explain how we can help grow your school by adapting to your needs.

Does your school need more students?
