Strategic Marketing for a Growth Plan That Actually Delivers

Rob Ayala, CEO of Digitalegy, on episode 037 of Generación de Demanda Hoy about the 2026 growth plan.

Every year the same scene repeats itself: many companies wait until January to "start getting organized," while their marketing and revenue teams are already under pressure to project growth, justify investments and prove that next year won't be another exercise in improvisation.

The difference between teams that grow and those that only react rarely lies in the budget. It lies in the system behind it.

I talked about this with Emilio García and Gabriela García on episode 037 of Generación de Demanda Hoy. Below you'll find the full episode and the takeaways most worth keeping to build your 2026 growth plan.

Planning Before January Is Already a Competitive Advantage

B2B doesn't forgive improvisation. Buying cycles are long, decisions go through several stakeholders and what you sow today is harvested one or two quarters later. If you wait until January to define your strategy, you start the race when everyone else is already half a lap ahead.

Planning ahead isn't a luxury reserved for large companies: it's what allows you to enter the year with defensible goals, prioritized investments and a clear starting point to measure against. Everything else is reacting and praying that the market cooperates.

Expectations vs. Reality: Budget Accelerates, It Doesn't Fix

Here is the most expensive misunderstanding in B2B marketing. When a company wants to go from, say, 5 opportunities a month to 30, the first conversation almost always revolves around budget. And it's almost always the wrong conversation.

Budget accelerates a system that already works; it doesn't build one that doesn't exist yet. Investing more in a process that doesn't convert won't get you more customers: it gets you the same problem, only more expensive.

Before increasing investment, the questions are different:

  • Can your demand generation engine handle that volume?
  • Does sales have the capacity (and the process) to handle it?
  • Can your current conversion rate sustain it?
  • Are you clear on which metric you need to move first?

That's why we prefer to talk about results in percentages and against a clear baseline. Managing expectations isn't thinking small: it's designing a growth plan you can actually deliver on.

The System That Sustains Growth: RevOps, Nurturing and Retention

If budget is the fuel, Revenue Operations (RevOps) is the engine. It's the discipline that connects marketing, sales and service so a prospect doesn't fall through the cracks between one area and another.

Three pieces many companies continue to underestimate:

  • Lead nurturing. Not everyone who raises their hand is ready to buy today. Without a sequence to accompany them, you pay for demand that cools off before it converts.
  • Follow-up and processes. The speed and consistency with which sales responds determine how much of that demand becomes real pipeline.
  • Retention. The most ignored pillar and, at the same time, the most profitable. Growing while you lose customers out the back door is like filling a leaky bucket.

A growth plan that only looks at the top of the funnel is incomplete by design.

Real Diagnosis: KPIs, Digital Maturity and Your Website

You can't plan what you haven't diagnosed. Before setting a single goal, it's worth understanding where you really stand: which KPIs you're moving today, how mature your digital operation is and whether your assets live up to what you promise.

The website is the best example. It's usually the first serious point of contact with a B2B buyer, and yet it's often treated as a brochure rather than as conversion infrastructure. A website that is slow, confusing or disconnected from your CRM puts a ceiling on everything you invest on top of it.

Digital maturity shapes strategy: it defines how fast you can execute, what you can automate and which goals are realistic for your starting point.

AI and Market Context: Riding the Wave Without Losing the Foundation

Artificial intelligence is rewriting how marketing and operations are executed, and getting on board in time is part of the competitive advantage of 2026. But AI amplifies an orderly system; applied to chaos, it only makes things spin faster. Foundation first, leverage second.

And no plan lives in a vacuum. "What are you comparing it against?" is the question that brings order to any goal. Your category, your competitors and the market moment are the context that defines whether growing 20% is conservative or ambitious. Growth isn't an isolated goal: it's a progression that only makes sense against a point of reference.

From Theory to Your 2026 Plan

If this conversation makes one thing clear, it's that a good year isn't built with more budget, but with a system capable of sustaining the growth you set out to achieve: an honest diagnosis, connected processes, goals measured against a baseline and the discipline to plan before the calendar forces you to.

At Digitalegy, we help B2B teams build exactly that: the revenue operation that turns investment into measurable growth. If you want to enter 2027 with a plan that generates revenue, and not just pretty slides, let's talk.
