SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE: WHAT IS SAAS?
A simple definition of what SaaS – Software as a Service is: it is a distribution model for software in which the software and data are hosted on the provider's servers and accessed with a web browser over the Internet.
The provider handles the maintenance, daily operation and technical support of the software used by the customer, and the customer pays for their use of the application.
It is the best known of the three levels of Cloud Computing and the one that usually targets the end customer, who uses SaaS software to support, improve or cover some of their company's processes.
The points to keep in mind when choosing a SaaS Application are reliability, SLA (Service Level Agreement), software price, customization options, connectivity with your company's applications, data location and the scheduled maintenance calendar.
SaaS Software has one feature that makes the model especially efficient: it is multitenant (multi-tenancy). This is the property that makes it possible to offer the same application to many users and thus spread the cost of infrastructure and maintenance across all of them.
In other words, an application that, with a single instance and a single database, serves all customers.
