 Lifecycle Stage HubSpot

Creating highly effective content is a challenging task in the world of digital business. Companies face the challenge of producing content that not only attracts and holds their audience's attention but also has an impact on their specific or changing needs.

Generic content can cause us to miss the opportunity to connect deeply with the customer, while highly personalized content can drive conversion or loyalty. The key to producing highly specialized content lies in understanding which lifecycle stage our prospect is in so we can deliver the right message at the right time.

Correctly identifying the customer's lifecycle stage is essential to delivering relevant content that captures the prospect's interest. By understanding the characteristics and needs of each stage, companies can design content strategies that guide prospects more efficiently through a sales funnel. For example, you could reduce your efforts to attract new customers and strengthen your strategies for those who already know or trust you. By shifting this focus, what was just another customer for you could become a repeat customer, loyal and happy with your products or services.

It's important to focus on the customers you already have, not only because they are the ones who will help you reinvest money in new prospecting strategies, but also because they will generate new business for you if you manage to build their loyalty. On average, a repeat customer spends 67% more than a new one.

The Customer Lifecycle in HubSpot

One of the best tools we can use to manage our prospects and identify how they move through a lifecycle is HubSpot. Using the Lifecycle stage property helps us:

  • Determine where a contact or company is in their processes
  • Better understand how leads are handed off between marketing and sales
  • Categorize contacts and companies based on where they are in their marketing and sales processes.

This HubSpot customization not only improves the customer experience, it also increases conversion rates and fosters long-term loyalty by making our marketing and sales strategies more specific. The default stages in HubSpot are the following:

marketing funnel

In this article, we'll explain how to plan specific content for each stage of your customers' lifecycle and how you can take advantage of each of its phases to improve your sales in a natural and simple way. Keep reading and let's explore these stages together.

Subscriber

Subscribers are those visitors to your website about whom you have collected minimal information, either through their behavior on your website or because they showed initial interest by subscribing to your blog or a newsletter. At this stage, the goal is to capture their attention and provide immediate value to turn the visitor into an engaged follower. You can do the following:

  • Publish educational and engaging content such as informative blog posts, infographics, and videos that address your customers' common problems and offer initial solutions to their questions. If your business is in the education sector, you can create an article about the different educational models for children or teenagers.
  • Use clear calls to action that invite visitors to subscribe to your newsletter or download a free resource. One example is inviting them to download an eBook with the following message: "The ultimate guide to improving productivity at work. Download our eBook for free here".

Digital Marketing Myths

Lead

When a subscriber becomes a Lead, it means they have shown more active interest in your content or products. At this stage, it's crucial to nurture this relationship and maintain their interest through personalized emails that include relevant content such as detailed guides, case studies, and webinars.

  • Send a series of emails that include case studies on how a company in a sector similar to theirs solved specific problems using your products or services. In these emails, you would add an invitation to a live webinar demonstrating the capabilities of your solutions.

Marketing Qualified Lead (MQL)

A lead qualified by marketing, or Marketing Qualified Lead (MQL), has shown significant interest in your business and is ready to receive more specific information. At this stage, content should focus on the solution you offer. Product comparisons, video demos, and manuals can be very effective.

  • You can create a video comparing your product with the main competitors, highlighting unique features and benefits. The goal of this content is to move the MQL to the next stage, so you'll help them see how your solution is the right fit for their specific needs.

Sales Qualified Lead (SQL)

A lead qualified by sales, or Sales Qualified Lead (SQL), is ready for a more direct conversation with the sales team and to schedule a sales briefing. Here, content should support sales interactions with detailed or even technical information. Offer detailed case studies, customer testimonials, and personalized demo sessions.

  • You can provide a detailed case study showing the return on investment a company achieved by implementing your solutions, accompanied by video testimonials from the customer.
  • You can create templates for practical use and show how to create content by leveraging tools such as Artificial Intelligence.

Opportunity

At the Opportunity stage, the prospect is seriously considering your offer and comparing it with other options. At this point, providing content such as price comparisons, return on investment analyses, or even guarantees can be decisive. Also, make sure the sales team has access to support materials that can answer any specific objection or question from the prospect.

  • An example could be a detailed analysis showing how your product saves time and money compared to the alternatives, accompanied by a satisfaction guarantee.

Customer

Once the prospect becomes a Customer, the focus shifts to customer retention and satisfaction. Create content that helps the customer get the most out of your product or service. This can include advanced tutorials, training webinars, and newsletters with tips and tricks.

  • For example, you could offer a monthly webinar that explores advanced features or updates to your product and how customers can use them to improve their efficiency.

Evangelist

At the Evangelist stage, your goal is to turn satisfied customers into active promoters of your brand. You can encourage customers to share their positive experiences through referral programs, testimonials, and user-generated content.

  • Organize exclusive events for your customers and provide them with materials that make it easy to recommend your product or service to potential prospects.
  • You can create a referral program where existing customers get discounts or benefits for each new customer they refer, along with an easy-to-use platform for sharing testimonials and reviews.
