PUBLIC RELATIONS PROFESSIONAL

In this post, we are going to discuss the essential skills of a professional in public relations, or PR. We believe that being a good PR professional requires the following must-have skills to succeed in this world and contribute to your company.

1. HAVE GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

More important than knowing that sentences are built with a subject, verb, and predicate is knowing what message to send to whom, that is, having a knack for detecting what conversation we should offer, at what moment, and in what tone.

2. STAY 100% UP TO DATE ON THE LATEST EVENTS.

As the name suggests, a public relations professional is devoted to exactly that: relations. It is essential, then, that to be highly valued in their work, they nurture those relationships and know the schedule of upcoming events at any given moment.

3. MAINTAIN A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH JOURNALISTS AND THE MEDIA:

They are the key to making sure all your events and actions get visibility. Pamper them, take care of them, be kind, and thank them for their willingness to help.

4. HAVE A VERY ACTIVE PROFILE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

Share things that are of interest to the community and expand your online network. Your reputation depends on them. Just as you have to be on point when you speak, you also have to be on point when you tweet.

5. HAVE AN OPEN AND PLEASANT PERSONALITY.

There is no room for shyness in this profession. Waiting in a corner for someone to come up to you and ask, "What's your name?" is off limits. A good public relations professional is someone who takes the initiative to make new contacts.

6. HAVE SELF-CONFIDENCE.

You know you are capable of anything you set your mind to. It is the main foundation for walking out the office door and heading to an event with one single goal: to get to know people and make yourself known. To do this, it is essential to feel good about yourself, be comfortable in the clothes you are wearing, and smile. Picture this: you are at an event and your colleague comes over to tell you about a problem with a client. Talk it over, nothing is stopping you, but do it - strange as it may seem - with a smile. Yes, we know it doesn't add up for you, but the rest of the guests cannot see you worried or sad - it would make a bad impression. And you know, first impressions are the ones that count.

7. HAVE CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE.

Pretending to be interesting won't cut it. You have to be interesting. That means knowing a little about a lot of things and, therefore, being able to talk about any topic that comes your way.

8. HAVE A LOT OF PATIENCE.

Not everyone you have to deal with is as kind, friendly, attentive, and professional as you are. The person you are talking to may be the type who stares off into the distance while you speak, chats with you with their mouth full, or shakes your hand with barely any grip… But you, be pa-tient. It is one of your most important virtues.

9. HAVE A GOOD NOSE FOR NEWS.

Yes, in the world of public relations, we should live up to - as far as possible - the great saying “be in the right place at the right time”. To do this, we need to know what can be news and what cannot so we can choose our location wisely and surround ourselves with the people we are interested in.
